Have up to date Bitdefender Internet Security 2016 installed.

When I open the Computing.net site, it opens and I am able to write this question. Is there something wrong with Google ?

Hi willem1933, lets run these again.

Here are the first 2 steps, more steps will be needed, after I see the results of these logs.

Run them in this order.

Step 1: Run AdwCleaner
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivi...
http://www.raymond.cc/blog/adwclean...
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...
Author's site
http://general-changelog-team.fr/en...
Tutorial
http://general-changelog-team.fr/en...
Close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Click Scan
In the results tabs, uncheck anything you don't want to remove.
Click on Cleaning.
Confirm each time with Ok.
Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
Please Copy & Paste the contents of that logfile with your next answer.
You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.

Step 2: Run Junkware Removal Tool

http://thisisudax.org/
http://thisisudax.blogspot.com.au/2...
Malwarebytes Acquires Junkware Removal Tool
https://blog.malwarebytes.org/news/...
Download Junkware Removal Tool onto your Desktop. If your default download location is not the Desktop, drag it out of it's location onto the Desktop.
Warning! Once the scan is complete JRT will shut down your browser with NO warning.
Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
Temporarily disable your antivirus and any antispyware real time protection before performing a scan.
Click this link to see a list of security programs that should be disabled and how to disable them.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/for...
http://www.techsupportforum.com/for...
Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7/8, right-click JRT and select Run as Administrator.
The tool will open and start scanning your system.
Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved onto your Desktop and will automatically open.
Copy and Paste the contents of the JRT.txt log please.

Which browser are you using to try to download chrome? If Firefox, try IE (or vice-versa).

Perhaps the portable version would work for you (you can still install it on a hard drive) :

That was my thought too.... You may have malware on your system. Follow JohnW's advice to be sure.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Am currently NOT on my laptop, where the problem was, but on my PC.

Have run ADWCleaner and Junkware Removal tool. There were a few problems that were repaired. I wanted to paste the results in this conversation on my laptop, but could not even get into my Gmail , nor my outlook account with either Firefox nor IE.

The history of my laptop is, it came with Windows 8.1 installed. Upgraded to Win 10, but couldn't get into it, so decided to delete the lot and install my win 7 with which I have been comforatble with. I did not succeed, so asked my PC shop to do this for me. They succeeded and I asked how they had done it. I had overlooked that my Win 7 DVD was an upgrade version. I could have provided an original Vista CD. At 82 maybe Alzheimer light played a part.

Now I have given up and am installing Win 10 again, as Microsoft is pushing it more and more aggresively and set myself to get into this interface. I need a well functioning laptop when I have to work in Ethiopia, where the internet, nor the electricity are not all that dependable.

I thank RIIDER, T-R-A, Fingers and especially Johnw for their valued help. Willem 1933

This is the best way Willem.

Download Windows 10 Media Creation Tool with Version 1511 included.

Well, unfortunately it is not !! On my laptop, which now has an updated WIn 10, I still cannot get into my gmail account, cannot install google chrome. So if possible give me a little guidance.

I get the same message "An error occurred during a connection to www.google.com. SSL received a malformed Server Hello handshake message. (Error code: ssl_error_rx_malformed_server_hello)

As the upgrade of win10 kept all my programs, I assume that it also kept the settings found in Win 7. But how to correct that.

"I wanted to paste the results in this conversation on my laptop, but could not even get into my Gmail , nor my outlook account with either Firefox nor IE"
Use a good computer ( friend, neighbor, family etc ) to post or upload any logs etc.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it onto your Desktop. If your default download location is not the Desktop, drag it out of it's location onto the Desktop.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...
If we have to run Farbar more than once, refer this SS.
http://i.imgur.com/yUxNw0j.gif
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the Desktop.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt).
The logs are large, upload them using Zippy ( No account/registration needed ) or upload to a site of your choosing. Give us the links please.

Have found the solution to my problem. For security and privacy reasons Bitdefender antivirus software is installed. In the "web protection" module there is an "SSL scan", which is automatically activated at installation. When this is de-activated Firefox accepts all the sites (e.g. www.google.com). Given the problem I encountered I presumed that Google does not have a Secure Sockets Layer Certificate, thus does not use the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser.

When the laptop was upgraded from win7 to win 10, it left in place all the programs that were installed previously.

Using "SSL Tools" at www.ssltools.com for the Firefox version hat came from the Win 7 and checking the DNS information the site came up with the message that the Firefox version was not for win10 and updated itself to the version 42.0 for win 10.

Now SSL scan in Bitdefender is on and the problem has not re-appeared.

Although the problem has been solved ran the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) and please find the results at the following links:

http://www63.zippyshare.com/v/UQLmf...
http://www46.zippyshare.com/v/CmbPG...

Have looked at the results and found a number of ATTENTION remarks. Did not run the FIX in FRST yet. Should I do that to improve function of win 10?

"Have found the solution to my problem"
Nice work.

"Should I do that to improve function of win 10?"
Yep, here is the full list.

Copy & Paste the text in Blue below & save it into Notepad on your Desktop & name it fixlist.txt
NOTE: It is important that Notepad is used. The fix will not work if Word or some other program is used.
NOTE: It is important that both files, FRST/FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.
