what happens when you tap f8 on boot up and try to get in to safe mode? Does that work?

Also, if I'm not mistaken, there should also be a button for 'repair my computer' when try to get to safe mode....if there is...click on that

It seems that given a little time his computer did boot up but still has the virus preventing him getting on the internet. Suggestions to get rid of it? Thanks for your quick reply, btw.

sorry it took so long to reply. Had to go to work. He has superspyware and webroot on his computer already but webroot caught it but did nothing about it and since then he has not been able to access the internet.

Open up IE, click on Tools/internet options/connections/Lan Settings and uncheck use proxy server.
Then close IE and re-open it, now he should be able to get online.
Then download malwarebytes and run a full scan fixing all it finds.

He was able to get on the internet and download the malwarebytes program but he thinks the vista malware attached itself to it and he thinks his flashplayer was affected so got rid of that but still gets the vista window coming up. Doesn't seem to be able to get rid of it.

he has to do it in the right sequence.
Tap f8 as soon as the screen shows signs of starting up....then it will hang on a screen with drivers for awhile, then it goes to safe mode, could take from 30 seconds toan hour, depending on how bad the PC is infected.
