HP desktop, XP operating system. When we turn on the pc, IE starts itself and an upgrade ad from Trend Micro comes up. TM has never been installed on this pc, and never comes up otherwise. I have searched the hard drive and the IE settings and can't find any trace of it. How can I get rid of it?

its a file in your windows schedualer, should be under control panels. This was on one of my customers computers as well, deleateing the schedualed task removed it.

also highly recommend downloading and running malwarebytes/another malware remover. This site had been hacked well over a year ago, (it was fixed almost imediatly, very reputable company) so this will make sure there isnt anything wierd going on. if you dont find it there, let me know, I will review my notes.

trend micro makes a ton of things, so it was probably from another program btw. and is probably legitimate
