Infected Windows XP & Kaspersky Installation

Specs: Windows XP, P-4 256mb
Yesterday I found a PC with Win XP heaving lots of error messages like when we try to open any of the system function its not opening and "virus xxxxxxxxx is infected & can not open " message is coming ? This may be due to one of the users install some "Security Tools" form the net.
Since no other options r available I have to reformat the C:\ Drive after transferring the file to other drives and install XP again.
But now when I try to install Kasperksy suddenly it closes the configuration window. I tried several times. All other s/w has been installed but I can not load the Anitvirus? What to do ? Pleas help. Thanks in advance.

The antivirus should have been the first thing installed, before other sw and definitely before you copied the files back over. You could try downloading the Kaspersky rescue disk (from HERE) and run that first - see what it finds.
