IMAP and thunderbird

Hello
I can't seem to get Thunderbird email to find the imap mail server.
It can only find the pop email server.
I tried typing the imap settings in manually and click retest configuration but error is
Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account.
I turned off the firewall and antivirus but still no luck.

I set up the account on another computer at another address and it found the imap server no problems but when I tried to retrieve email the password kept being rejected.
Until about 15 minutes later without me changing anything the emails came in all by themselves.
Perhaps thats another issue altogether.

Does anyone know what would cause Thunderbird to not find imap servers. The email version is 3.1.10 which is the latest.
Thanks

Hello

Thanks for the link
I did do it that way and thunderbird tries to find the mail server and error is thunderbird has failed to find settings.......etc

Maybe this is a problem with the local machine but thunderbird finds pop ok.
At the moment its connected to the pop mail server.
Strange how it finds the pop settings but not the IMAP.
Any other suggestions.
Thanks

I searched Google for Thunderbird Imap. That was just one of the sites. Repeat the search. Maybe you'll see something better.

Hello

Thank you for your suggestion.
Before I post a question I have usually spent a while researching the answer myself.
Not meaning to be disrespectful but I am hoping to find someone who has experienced the same issue. Perhaps this is not the correct message board for this type of question.

Most people don't search first. I'm glad to hear that you did. Try some other forums.
