Specs: Windows Vista
i think I have this terrible virus or whatever it is. My son tried to open something yesterday and this explorer.exe is keeping me from opening programs or downloading any kind of anti spyware or virus protection...is there anyway to get rid of it? I ran a full systen Norton scan and it didn't find it.

norton is one of the worst, but anyways, try tapping f8 on bootup and choose safe mode with networking. There you should be able to download some anti-spyware progs.
If that doesn't work, download the progs to a thumb drive and then load them onto your problem PC.
First thing you can do is go to start/msconfig and then disable all the startup items.
Then:
You could scan with
1- Malwarebytes
2- Trojan Remover
3- Hitman Pro.

Those 3 should help in cleaning up your problem.

Yes, it just won't let me open any programs a box comes up asking which program I want to use to open it with. If I try to download anything the run box just keeps popping up over and over again

you can download winpatrol to a thumbdrive and run it on the problem PC. There you can shut off the start-up items easily and safely
