Solved I think I may have installed malware on my pc

March 27, 2012 at 11:45:02
Specs: Windows 7
I was using my mom's laptop (still am) and I clicked one of those advert plugins (shoot the monsters) and then I couldn't click move my mouse. The laptop froze so I did a hard reboot. It started up and it was even slower. I rebooted a few more times. Now the laptop is working alright but I think there might be malware installed on her system. I haven't told her yet cos I don't want to freak her out before I try to fix it. Help!

Try MalwareBytes freebie, that often unearths things and is quick to run.

After the Malwarebytes scan

I would suggest you try Ccleaner slim

to remove all junk files safely from the Laptop. It also won't hurt to click on the registry icon and fix all the useless entries it finds.

I feel it is my duty to say that when running any Registry Cleaner there is always a chance that it could remove valid entries if you just let it remove all it finds. You will probably be confonted by a stack of them. It is therefore up to you whether or not you care to take that particular risk. Using CCleaner to clear junk files is quite safe however.
