|They may have been hidden by the malware. Go to your external drive from my computer If you are running XP click tools at the top of the window> Folder Options> View> Check Show hidden files and Folders and hit apply. |
If you are running vista or 7 you will need to hit alt first, so the bar shows up at the top of the window.
Your files and folders should show up if they are hidden. Highlight all the ones you recognize. Usually there is system volume information and recycler, they should remain hidden so don't highlight them. After they're all highlighted, hover over one with you cursor and right click. Click the properties tab and toward the bottom there should be attributes. Uncheck hidden. a box that says apply to all folders and subfolders may appear. In this case click yes. That should do it if the viruses are truly all gone.
