janeyc,

Please do the following, and this program will help us uninstall SearchQu after you post its results...

Download the latest version of HijackThis:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/fil...

Save to the Desktop.
XP - Double-click on HJTInstall.exe to install the program.
Vista/Seven - Right-click and select: Run as Administrator

A prompt appears showing that, by default, it installs to:
C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis
Click: 'Install'

At the main screen of the program, click on: 'Do a system scan and save a log file'
When done scanning, a log appears on your Desktop.

>>Please post the HijackThis log in your reply.<<

Now, start HijackThis once again. This time, click on Config > Misc Tools > Open Uninstall Manager

>>Save the Uninstall Manager list to the Desktop, and also post in your reply.<<

Thank you!

Hi janeyc and welcome to computing.net.
Searchqu is not necessarily a virus or infection, have you tried renaming your homepage yet? That usually takes care of it.
