'i put up a password on my startup i.e bios setup. and have forgotten the password.'

No problem, contact the PC manufacturer and be ready to give all your info and receipts so they can help you. Without that you are sunk I would say ;-)

Just wondering, are you the actual owner of the laptop?

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

You don't need the BIOS setup password to format a hard disk unless this is actually a hard disk password in which case Post 1 applies.
