If the file is infected, and in the avast! Virus Chest, why do you want to access the file? Do you want to delete it?

If so, select the file and right-click
You will have the option to:

Delete - this will delete the file irreversibly i.e. it will not just be moved to the recycle bin.

Dear AAFLAC-44, Thank you for your swift reply. I think you don't understood my question. The file was more important to me. That is why I wanted to retrieve it back. Let me clarify you further. Suppose I have a file named abc.doc. The file get infected with Win32:VB-CVP so the file has changed into abc.scr. In this file extention name the file cannot be opened with Word. When I applied Avast virus scan, this renamed file has been moved into its virus chest.

My specific question here is how to recover my original document abc.doc?
