How to fix windows xp restart loop

September 8, 2010 at 20:03:48
Specs: XP Pro, Intel /2Gb
I am trying to reinstall XP Pro after a Antimalware Virus attack. The reinstall ends in a loop after booting from CD and then getting to 35 minutes "installing devcies". The reinstallation fails having encountered a problem (undefined) with windows security - presumably a rsult of the infection. I have replaced kernal32.dll from the CD. Any idea where does XP store the installation stage information? What else can I do?

Could be a number of things;

Have you reformatted/repartitioned drive before install?

Do you know if your memory is good?

The drive was NOT reformatted as I was hoping to retain the files and setup so I was installing/repairing XP rather than a whole new installation. There has been no suggestion of hardware failure with the computer working faithfully for the last 18 months. The problem came with the virus infection - b---tards I thought! So thanks for your reply and any ideas gratefully received. Cheers.

go into bios and disable SATA support in your onboard devices. See if that fixes the loop
