Specs: Windows 7
Windows defender will not work, and states to contact system administrator, in the mean time every time I shut down my pc an update is downloaded,I believe a virus.

If it's a stand alone machine & you are the owner, you are the system administrator. Download, update & run anti malware from malwarebytes.org

Many thanks for your reply. This did work, perhaps you might know how I might remove (I believe has to be manually) the suspect files already on my machine.

Exactly what files are suspect? What error messages are you seeing now? I need some detail to get a clearer picture.

I have over 1500 event ID,s in this log, without exception they are either warnings, errors or critical. From event ID 2 to 70038.
Too many to thing about but would appreciate pointing in the right direction if possible.

Are the dates on those errors after you ran anti malware? Aside from what you see in the event viewer, how is the machine running? If it's ok, leave it alone.
