It has been a month or more since I used my Dell XPS laptop. All I have available is dial-up internet access, so I have to wait until I go to the library to use WiFi. I'm writing this on an XP desktop. Last month when I went to the library and got online, I got a message that my AVG Free needed to be updated. I clicked the appropriate place and the update began. After 45 minutes it was still updating, but it was time for the library to close, so I had to quit the update.
A few days ago I went to the library and began the update again. This time, after almost an hour, the update had not finished and again it was closing time, so I had to quit. Tried again yesterday with the same results.
How long should it take to update the AVG free virus definitions?
Seems very long even if you've not used it for a while. Try downloading the file and "Saving" it instead:
http://www.techspot.com/downloads/5...In the normal way it would take longer because normal updates only add to the data base but this is "the whole database". Just the same I think it could work out faster as it doesn't include the install. AVG might then update normally next time.
Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
