how do i remove Zero byte icon from desktop

Specs: Windows XP
how do i remove 2 icons that mysteriously appeared on my desktop. both look like a page with lines and a big "a" on the right hand lower side. each has 0 bytes and no extension. i cant rename, remove ,delete, put in a file, or move them.. because there is no source.

Not quite sure what you mean by this. how are you trying to delete the files, and what exactly happens when you try?

Whenever i attempt any procedure , the message is"cant delete
;cant read from source file or disk

What does that tell you about the icons?

absolutely nothing--no bytes, no bytes for "size on disk, no extension--there is nothing to work with.

kip, Right click your Desktop, choose Properties, under the Desktop tab click the Customize Desktop button, under the Web tab make sure that ALL boxes are unchecked, click Apply/OK.
