All my desktop icons have a .lnk extension how do I repair this?

Make sure you get the fix that is appropriate for your operating system (they are all different). This is for Windows 7:

First run the EXE fix, then if necessary the LNK fix.

Once fixed check for viruses. Include the freebie MalwareBytes as this often finds things that other program miss.

I would check on using tdsskiller as well, just in case. It is often interconnected
