How do I get rid of firefox redirect virus?

Specs: Windows XP, 2.8/3GB
i've got a firefox issue that I've seen on numerous tech support blogs. I get redirected to ad sites or just other search sites when using google. It even occasionally happens when my I'm idle at the computer (though the search bar in firefox will have terms entered in). How do I get rid of this? I've used avg, malwarebytes, and SUPERantispyware, but still it persists.

You can uninstall Firefox. Then, install SpywareBlaster. This program has a section just for Firefox. I would install it, update it, follow all instructions and leave it. SpywareBlaster is a program that is always running in the background keeping an eye on anything malicious that wants to invade your PC.

BUT, that is not the solution, that is just a maint program. You need to run an antivirus scan after uninstalling Firefox and any spyware programs you already ran, as mentioned above in your post.

Then, when all are done and you installed SpywareBlaster, install Firefox again. BTW, I would update all programs, THEN...go into safe mode and run all programs from there. Then, when all are run from safe mode, reboot and with the newly reinstalled Firefox, open it and see if it is ok.

You can also do a system restore and go back to a point when you knew your Firefox was clean.

I suggest you do it the first way I mentioned as it is important you have SpywareBlaster. It is a free program and can be found at, or just google it.

Please let me know if this helped.
Take care, Viv
