My Norton wants to apply a patch and it is instructing me to "close the application buvss.exe".
I haven't a clue as to how to do this or where to find it so I can close it (I don't even know that it is "open"!!!)
If you open task manager, right click the task bar and select task manager Go to the processes tab and find the process buvss.exe
Right click and terminate it by chosing end task or end process tree (something to that effect)
That should kill that process and alloe Norton to apply its patch
Oddly, buvss.exe doesn't exist under Background processes or Windows processes. I tried Norton again and the patch was applied. Go figure! Thank you anyway.
Did you google it? It's part of the Norton backup software. Why are you running Norton anyway? message edited by riider
Yes, I did. I was aware what it was. I run Norton because it is my anti-virus. Something tells me you have a better idea for my lap top's protection, right?
Usually Norton isnt recommended as it has been known to be weak at detecting infections, is extremely resource hungry and there are cheaper or even free alternatives, i use AVG as my AV and ZoneAlarm as my firewall both paid versios,i love this combo and have used it for years, others may recommend alternatives that are free, which are equally as good, maybe better. Norton to be honest isnt good and most will recommend you get rid, and i would tend to agree. Anyways glad your issue was resolved
Great advice. Thank you. Good information from a computer savvy individual (which is what I was hoping for!). Much appreciated. I will refer back to this message right before my Norton expires in about 90 days. Any thoughts on Comcast Xfinity "Constant Guard"? Their claim-to-fame reads as follows: Unmatched online protection against identity theft, viruses and more with top-rated Norton Security Suite, all included at no additional cost."
