What are you running for virus & malware protection? ClamWin doesn't have real-time protection, it's an on-demand scanner. Without real-time protection, your system will get infected again, so if you don't have it, you need to get it ASAP.

My recommendation is to dump WinClam & install Bitdefender Free Edition.

i was using windows defender. i installed clamwin and ran it because i got infected and windows defender wasn't catching it. so windows defender is on-demand and not a real-time protection ????

" i installed clamwin and ran it because i got infected and windows defender wasn't catching it"

What does that tell you?

"so windows defender is on-demand and not a real-time protection"

Defender is real-time protection, it's just not very good.

The main thing is to be careful what you do. There is no antivirus that will guarantee you don't get infected.

Run these two small freebies from MalwareBytes which often find what anti-virus programs miss. Run AdwCleaner first:

AdwCleaner:
https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcle...
Download and "Save" the file somewhere. Go to the saved file then double click it to run the program. Run the "Scan", followed by the "Clean & Repair".

MalwareBytes:
https://www.malwarebytes.org/
(use the "Free Download" button rather than the "Buy Now" button).
After the install go to "Settings > Protection". Under Scan Options move the "Scan for rootkits" slider over to On and Run the Threat Scan. Quarantine anything it finds.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

"i was using windows defender"
That's what I use, go to any malware forum & no matter what AV they use, they got infected.

Like Derek said, it is up to the User to be vigilant.
