How Can I Remove My Monitor From My Computer?

  • 5

My monitor is stuck into the pins on the back of the computer. The little screws won’t even budge. I don’t want to pull too hard for obvious reasons. I tried to use pliers to turn the screws but still nothing…no clue how they got stuck as I never screw them tightly. Anyways, I know very little about what goes on inside of my computer…can I just buy a relatively inexpensive card? Or is there some other easier way to do it? The cable won’t come out of the back of the monitor which really sucks cos I’m trying to replace with the EXACT SAME model.

  1. Suggest using the tiniest drop of penetrating oil (such as Plus-gas ,WD40 or Superlube) on the threads and allow to soak a while.
Do not spray on, instead apply a drop or two with a small screwdriver.

I noted you state screws as opposed to thumbscrews, which appear in Mickliq’s picture of monitor connectors.

Then try unscrewing with a screwdriver of the correct size. You should push hardish, while turning anti-clockwise. As advised above, you may have to hold the hexagonal mountings with a spall spanner or pliers to stop them turning.

Bear in mind, using pliers could mess up the head of the screw(s) such that a screwdriver will no longer fit.

    Advise back, if successful.

Good Luck – Keep us posted.
