Solved How can I get Safari to open--it seems frozen?

May 12, 2016 at 21:28:00
Specs: osx Yosemite10.10.5, 1.4 GHz Intel Core15
Safari does no open, icon turns dark when I click. Message says safari application can't be opened because it does not respond. I had no trouble yesterday. I did update two apps today but don't know if that caused it.

First try manually shutting down the machine and restarting it. It is simple which is why it is often overlooked but often works.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Yes indeed, restart is the first thing to try with most faults.

You are probably stuck then with uninstalling Safari then re-installing it from a new download.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. The shut down (Fingers) wouldn't work until I used force-quit and when I restarted safari was working. So now I can use Phil 22 and Derek's suggestions to keep it from happening again. I am just good enough on computers to get by if things work; when they don't I rely on "the kindness of strangers."

Good to hear. You might not have to do anything more, just see how you get on for a while. Sometimes computers can glitch for unknown reasons.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
