How can I get rid of virus affecting VIsta?

October 19, 2010 at 09:08:38
Specs: Windows Vista
I have the following symptoms:
- my Windows Vista taskbar keeps reverting from the modern version to the classic (tan bar) after about 10 minutes of having my computer on
- I cannot access any downloads to anti-virus software (I am directed to a scam page)
- At random times, I cannot access my most visited websites (Gmail, Facebook, School email)

My attempted solutions:
- I have run CCleaner, AVG, Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, rkill, and Ad-aware. Nothing has worked. AVG has had pop-ups that mention an "Exploit Rogue Scanner (type 1349)."

How I most likely received this virus:
- Left computer on in an open, unsecured network at large hotel
I'd appreciate anyone's help! This virus has rendered my computer's online usage pretty much useless.

Try the Security & Virus forum:

I've been there as well as many other forums following suggestions. As you can see, I have listed many Antivirus/Antispyware software applications that I have already run on my computer. If you would direct me to a particular post in the forum, that would be be helpful, but at this time, read my post with the assumption that I have been and still am searching on separate forums.

noktrnlcrechur, thanks for the detailed post...awesome, wish others would do that.

Try rkill.exe a few more times...some processes are real hard to kill, but eventually it will stop it, then immediately do a full scan with malwarebytes.
Try these other 2 cleaners as they will also work well for you:
1- Trojan Remover
2- Hitman Pro
After they run clean, uninstall them using their own uninstaller in program files, NOT in add/remove.

Then try rkill again and after that Malwarebyes in full mode. That should nip it in the bud for you.
If you still have problems after that, also if your vista is 32 bit you can try combofix
Follow the webpage instructions carefull and you should be fine.
Good Luck

Some HELP in posting on plus free progs and instructions Cheers
