How access data, forgot my external hard drive (Mac format)

I did a fresh install but I forgot about the password because was in keychain, I trying to recover keychain files, there a lot of them but with out the name just de extension ""keychain", please help, my entire life is in that disk...

Clarify your situation...

You have a Mac system and an external Mac formatted hard drive too?

You re-installed the OS on the Mac itself; and can't remember the password you used either for the previous Mac installation and/or the the external hard drive?

You may be able to regain access to, and thus recover data off, the external drive using a root level login...

Have a browse here and see if anything helps in that vein...

Using the root level is to be done carefully; and ideally one creates a separate Admin level account - with that root option enabled for that account only. Do NOT have it enabled on other accounts... And keep a safe note/record of that account's login/password...

Per chance do you have Time Machine backup (on an *external drive)? If so then... possibly this approach may help?

Failing which - a phone call to Apple support may help you resolve the problem situation. I chatted with Apple techies in my local Apple-land store and their advice was to contact Apple support over the phone, and explain the situation....
