Help! Lack of memory?

Microsoft Windows 7 home premium
March 13, 2014 at 10:23:05
Specs: Windows 7 & XP, 4gb
My daughter has these in her task manager when she only has the Windows 7 startup screen showing. She says her computer is really slow and will not run some programs because of lack of memory of which she has 4gb's.
iexplorer.exe 132,604
explorer.exe 25,048
iexplorer.exe 20,220
dwm.exe 14,732
and many others with less memory.

It says at the bottom of TM:
Physical Memory: 52%

Is there a way to check these for virus? She is running AVG virus program but does not detect anything out of the ordinary.

run malwarebytes and adwcleaner and fix all they find. AVG alone misses lots of malware, etc...
