Freezing Computer with no virus

Specs: Windows XP
My computer is freezing. I have done several virus scans and they keep coming up with nothing. But every time I try to play a game or type things up on the computer it freezes. when I run the virus scan it doesn't freeze though. I don't know what is wrong with it. The first time I did a virus scan I came up with several viruses and I deleted all but one of them because it said it couldn't delete it.
Could it be possible that it is hiding in a folder? The virus scan also says that it couldn't search in all the folders. If you could help me It would be very much appreciated.

Sounds like your computer may be over heating. Install Speedfan on your computer and monitor your CPU temps...

Also what games are you playing and are they online games? A lot of the free online games are full of spyware.
