There are free versions of both AVG & SpyBot and Google will find them both for you.

Tip:
Search "AVG Free" & "SpyBot Free" (both top of the list, ignoring any sponsored links).

OH btw, avast, even as a real time scanner, can let viruses seep through. I have gotten several v iruses with avast. Although it warns you that maleware has been detected and you delete it, there are still reminents that have gotten through.

And, if you search spybot free, you get a cyber defender ad . Do not download it. It's a self proclaimed AV that actually floods your cpu with viruses. I uninstalled it, then it got me into the internet and started downloading maleware lawl. Avast did nothing besides telling me that i had a virus. Had to use MBAM to get rid of it.

Just searching for "spybot free" gave me no advert for cyber defender, nor did clicking on any of the normal non-sponsored links that I tried.

You should never download unsolicited software - always check credentials. SpyBot is quite safe.

I use both Avast & AVG (different machines) and have found both of their current versions well capable of alerting me to viruses whilst online. Neither have ever let anything through. No AV is perfect, there is always a chance that different virus checkers are better able to deal with specific viruses than others. I would generally rate both as good.
