F8 safe mode problem

Specs: Windows XP
I downloaded a virus which prevents my older computer from booting up.After the initial start up starts a phony safe mode page appears and when I try to use the arrow buttons to start in safe mode they don't work.After 30 seconds the initial XP intro screen appears for a couple of seconds then it disappears and the whole cycle starts again,can anyone help.

If you have a Windows XP disk try booting from that.

Some reboot disks also allow you to choose whether to reboot to factory settings OR to system restore to a previous date.
If you have a reboot disk, put it in, reboot and see if it loads. If it does, see if there's an option for system restore.

If so, Do that to a previous date, preferably before you installed the virus.
And try it.
If no luck or you don't have this option, You may have to reboot to factory settings meaning losing all the data on that hard drive.
Or you could take it to the tech guys in most computing shops and they will try recover it.
