ezsidmv.dat in ProgramData - What is this?

February 8, 2011 at 15:01:26
Specs: N/A
Is it related to Skype? It's located at ProgramData and in Users\All Users\

It's 56 bytes. If opened in notepad it displays random characters, likely due to an encryption I assume?

If deleted, upon launching Skype the file automatically recreates itself.

This specific file name has been reported to be linked with malware.

Is there any reason for concern here? Do any of you have it?

Can you download MalwareBytes, update it and run a full scan.
Next download HitmanPro 3.5 30 day free trial and run a full scan
Next download ESET online scanner and run it fully at least twice.
These three should tell you if its good or bad?

It's not bad, and scanning it would be futile. It's a .dat meaning that it wouldn't match any signatures as it's simply a storage bin for an application. I was seeking information on this, such as if you've got Skype installed, do youhave this file as well? Or any resources linking it to Skype?

I've scanned it and looked into the checksums of the file and have found no solid information on it.

I believe it is related to this EasyBits Go crapware / malware thing pushed down by skype. That is why skype keeps recreating it. Here is a link on how to remove it from your system.

Needless to say I'm pretty pissed about this intrusion on my computer by a company that is suppose to be fairly reputable.
