Does your new laptop have Windows 10? IF so, just uninstall any freebie AV products & then enable Windows Defender.

Yes it does but why does that stop me having avg? I just really like avg and want to continue to use it, I dare not uninstall mcfee in case I get left with nothing when all else fails, I did manage to get malwarebytes which I love.

Please note that you cannot have two active antivirus programs installed at the same time, there is a conflict. Use the McAfee uninstaller on their website to make sure that it is completely removed. If you still cannot install AVG then try Avast or use the included Windows Defender.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

It is important to use the McAfee uninstaller as given. I'm emphasising this because I've just seen another poster who screwed up his computer by not doing so. If you can find a way to turn off McAfee before you uninstall that that would be a good idea too.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
