Computer reboots during virus scan

Specs: Windows XP
Every time I try to run a virus scan on my win Xp it reboots. It there a way to get around the auto reboot? I believe something is taking over my computer.

Hi,

Scan your machine with Adware and Virus scanners in safe mode.
Reboot and press F8 repeatadly until you get a blue screen then select the continue
in safe mode.
Run Adware remover, Spybot or "Spyware blaster" this will keep keep your machine clean from such worms.
Also if your system has virus run "Bitdefender" or "Avast" in your machine (still in safe mode), then clean the temporary files and fix registry errors using "CCleaner" application.
This will keep your system clean and helpy you with the same.

Well that's the thing. I'm using Windows Live OneCare and it doesn't work in safe mode and the online scanners would reboot the computer during scan in safe mode as well.
