Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, 2.793 GHz / 3070 MB
I've been notified by my internet provider that my account has been compramised and I must create a new account by a certain date . After that date I will not have access to the internet via my old password and user name. My concern is with my anti-virus app. Microsoft Security Essentials, I cannot find any information on what will happen when I change my internet account, what changes do I need to make if any to my anti virus account . I went thru all the settings in MSE and no where does it list my current internet account information or any option to change that ? Will I still be able to recieve new virus definitions with the new account etc.I have three days to figure this out any help from the community would be greatly appreciated !
Thank You Nick

Changing you Internet user name or password will generally have no effect on Internet access by any application, and that includes anti-virus utilities. The exception would be if you access the Internet with a proxy server and most home users do not.

Applications access Internet services that have been made available by the system. They have no knowledge of such details as account names or passwords, unless of course a proxy server is being used.

If you are using an email service provided by your ISP you will need to update account details in your email client.

I've been notified by my internet provider that my account has been compramised and I must create a new account by a certain date .

Are they saying your account is infected? MSE is extremely hard to remove....even harder than Norton & others. Changing your account will not effect your anti-virus.

"I've been notified by my internet provider that my account has been compramised and I must create a new account by a certain date . My ISP informed via email that I had ten days to renew my account they wrote>
We are sorry to inform you that your account has been flagged for suspicious activity. However, it is our belief that you are the unknowing victim of a virus or hacker(s) which gained access to your account and used it to send spam or perform other activities prohibited by our Terms of Service. Because of this, we must place restrictions on your account's email service immediately.<
I have already had the old account removed and set a new user name and password ,I can again send emails and they transfered all my contacts to the new account . The only thing is I can no longer recieve emails sent to the old account so I must inform everyone I know and everyweb site Iam a member of the new accounts name ! My Microsoft Security Essentials free Anti-Virus application did not require any changes and still runs and installs new virus definitions . I really do not believe my account was hacked into . Both my tenagers who's B-Days are in October recieved I-Phones as their gifts and I think it was perhaps some activity by them transfering their information from our home ISP to their new I-Phone internet accounts that caused some kind of mix up causing my ISP to believe the account was hacked into ? Just a suspicion on my part thanks to all whom replied!

Here's another plan...TRASH the ISP e-mail address as your own (you still have to have ONE which is for the ISP contact on your account) and set up a web-based account on Hotmail or Gmail for your own e-mail....much better IMO...then you never have to change addies when or if you change your ISP. I did that EONS ago.
