Norton would not know whether the copy had been scanned by the cashier, it's more likely that you have simply been given a version with only one licence and so it will not let you install on a second machine. If so then take up your query with wherever you purchased it from, otherwise you can contact Norton Support here: https://support.norton.com/sp/en/uk...

Hello,

Sorry for the trouble. I am Vineeth and I am from the Norton Support team.

Can you please provide me more details on the problem? Were you able to install the Norton product? Do you receive any error when you activate the Norton product?

Thanks!

Norton is not the best AV it hogs system resources. Get something like MSE AV it is free. Also scan weekly with maleware bytes. There are plenty of other free tools you can use. Throw the Norton 360 Away use Norton uninstall tool if you installed it and tell your daughter the same.

Your best source of help is still the support page linked to in response #1 - their help system actually works very well the couple of times I've had to use it.

If you do any sort of financial stuff - online banking or using cards etc. you do definitely need a commercial program like Norton - MSE doesn't work on Windows 8 anyway, it's changed to Windows Defender, but even Microsoft admit that it is only a basic security solution: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/securit...

I would choose Avast Free anytime over Norton or MSE....MUCH better protection and daily free updates.
