can't update AVG or windows

April 17, 2009 at 20:52:28
Specs: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, 2.6 GHz / 2045 MB
I recently purchased the full version of AVG Internet Security and i am unable to download the updates for it. The update will start and then say "Update Failed: Connection with update server has failed" The same thing happens when I try to run the update for windows or for windows defender. I also have the common problem of being redirected when clicking on search engine results. Can anyone help out here?

did you by chance have norton or mcafee installed prior to
avg?
If so, I would suggest you run the uninstaller from THEIR
website as add/remove won't uninstall all the leftover files,
so NO AV will will work properly untill all the remnants are
uninstalled.
You may also want to use regcleaner which is also free
and remove all instances of those AV's

No, the only prior service was the Windows Defender, and that has been disabled.

I had the same problem with not being able to update windows and i found a solution on the net..I ran Avast to no avail and another program, forget the name. But one guy said get superantispyware and it would work. I thought what the heck I've already spent two days messing with this. I got the cracked version, although the free version is supposed to work as well. I ran a full scan, deleted the Trojans and virus' it found and voila, I could get all my updates again. Hope this helps. Good Luck:

Did you contact AVG after you purchsed it? They should have
support for paid subscribers.
Check out my link and run the free programs listed. Start like
this:
1- Run Ccleaner Slim- removes all the junk files
2- Run Malwarebytes- remove all it finds
3- Run Spyware Blaster and be sure to immunize.
That should get you on your way.
