April 26, 2010 at 10:48:08
Specs: Windows XP SP3
Ok i have nortans antivirus corperate edition 8.1 and i cant update it. now i know that there is a virus because, even tho i have dial-up, it instantly fails to connect to the update server. i have no clue what the virus is called. i have tried uninstalling my antivirus and instaling. i have tried uninstalling my antivirus, getting rid of the registry values, get rid of every nortans program and left over file, then installing it, but it still doesnt update. it has never failed that fast before. i am on a network but i know that i am definately connected to the network with no problems.

Did you try Running your Anti-Virus in safe mode.
If not do it now. After wards, clean your system using malwarebytes, Hitman pro, Remove it pro, Combo fix.
Now try to update your Anti-Virus (in normal mode).

Please Get back the result.

Thank you :-)

actually i have another problem now..... i didnt do any of that steps yet.... my friends hard drive crashed or something and now it wont start up. the day before it did that the hard drive light was staying on. So i plugged it into my computer to try and run some recovery software to get data back, no luck because the bios could not identify the hard drive and it wasnt there in windows. so we unpluged it and now my hard drive light stays on.

If this helps at all, they are both SATA hard drives mine is 500gb his is 1tb

thanks in advance

When you say you can't update, you mean you can't update it manually?..

It does not want to update at all, also now I beleive that it is
screwing with my firewall. It says that it is not on but it clearly
is. So I clicked to open security centre and it ways firewall is
off. Now I am using a wireless connection to a router. Now
anyways there should be an option to open the firewall
settings, but it is replaced with a recommendations box. I click
it amrit says a thing about network firewall and why itshould
beturned on so I enabled the next time I restarted i wasn't
able to connect through the linksys utility or the windows one.
So I pluged the wireless thing into another USB port that it
wasn't in before and it found new hardware and it works again
but it again says no firewall turned on. i have pluged this
wireless card into many pcs and it NEVER asked to turn on
network firewall settings.

*sigh* any help would b greatly appreciated

btw sorry if some words don't make sense I am using my iPod
to reply as I am afraid to connect to he internet on my
computer

Well, if it can't update manually, and it just won't update at all, I would say uninstall it using the Norton Removal tool found here: http://service1.symantec.com/suppor...

(I'm only posting the other link from Major Geeks, because I don't know if that one^ removes Norton 2010, but I'm guessing it would)

http://majorgeeks.com/Norton_Remova...

After you've done that, reboot, and I would install Avast! anti-virus from here: http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free...

Using the uninstaller I posted above will remove your Norton anti-virus. But, if you're using a company/work PC (which I'm not sure that you are, are you?), then you might have to keep Norton Corporate Edition on there. However, if this is your own personal laptop, I would suggest getting rid of Norton.

I've also noticed you've deleted registry entries and etc related to Norton. Did you do this BEFORE or AFTER when you were trying to update?.

Well I will be a little delayed with my replys as I curently
have no Internet cuz the stupid company shut it off. So when
I scanned with AVG and it found a bunch of viruses... Couple
Trojans and dialers... Now when I get my Internet up and
running again I will try and update AVG if it works I will install
nortans again and try to get it to work... If it doesn't work I will
try avast! Antivirus thanks for all yer help so far
