just out of curiousity, have you checked to see what is in your auto fill list?

also, its possible that the site you are entering information is a little newer then ie6. there have been several updates since then, and its possible that the error is from your browser as well.

you may wish to look here

Thank you for your reply. The problem started after downloading and attempting to install IE7. I checked the link you suggested but unfortunately, I can't get into regedit because after clicking start, run, that box also auto-populates with the ] symbol as well. Additionally, when I click on system restore I get a blank screen. Safe mode is no help and I can't use safe with a command prompt either because that field also autp-populates. Ditto for last know good configuration. I am using AOL 9.1. After the problems began I suspected AOL might be the culprit and have tried to reinstall from the desktop but the install stops after a few seconds of animation and an error message saying a problem was encountered and needs to close. If I go to IE, there is no address or taskbar.

I have never used any auto-fill programs but I guess it's possible something is going on there. Can you please tell me how to check without needing to type anything?

I know this is a lot of info but everything seems to be shot. I appreciate you trying to help and will try anything you suggest, but please remember, I can't type in ANY open field. Is there maybe another way to get into the registry?

Thanks for your time. Have a great evening.

try opening a new notepad doc and type

start regedit

save as whatever.bat
with all types selected
double click on the file.
this should get you into regedit.

I will keep looking, also might suggest that you try running trendmicro house call
