Can't ping computer with server 2003

July 19, 2011 at 07:38:45
Specs: Windows XP
Office I worked in closed so myself and another co worker moved to a smaller office without the need for large network. We took the server which was had a domain at the time with us to use as storage. We have a dsl line with a small linksys router setup. Both of us can access the internet. Since the domain no longer exist I created a workgroup so we could access the server and each others machine if needed. I took the domain off the server and created workgroup there also. I can see the server from my computer but can't ping it. I can go to the server and ping my computer. I know there is something blocking it, I just don't know what. I click on the firewall on the server but get a message stating the firewall is not running because something else is using the service or a file needed for the service. I know the server had Trend on it previously but I don't see where it is running now. Any suggestions. We really need the file space on the server.
