can't format thumb drive infected by auto.inf

July 27, 2010 at 03:10:33
Specs: Windows XP
hi, i have this 256mb Trek usb thumb drive and all the while it was working fine and then it got infected by the auto.inf
virus. I tried delete the auto.inf file each time and initially, it continue to work fine for a couple of weeks, then
suddenly it stop working. It shows used space: 0 bytes, free space: 0 bytes when i right click properties. Tried all
kinds of formatting and it never works (including dos format which generate the "error in IOCTL call" message and can't
detect the usb drive using disk management). I used another 512mb Trek usd thumb drive and it too got infected with the
auto.inf virus and history repeat itself, the same thing happened again. Can the auto.inf virus really damage usb flash
drive physically? Would appreciate very much for your reponse. Thanks in advance.

Try the free "Autorun Eater 2.5" at the link below.

you are not able to delete this file because this is not an original file

if you want to see the virus who create this file

just go to folder option then view tab

check show system files n settings
uncheck hide settings and system files ( protected )
press ok
now open your usb you are now able to see hidden folders in your use
you will see a folder name boot ( i guess this is the folder name )

this is the main file who create this virus

I don't think such kind of virus damage USB DRIVE PHYSICALLY yes if you keep formatting your usb drive

which i did most of time with my usb end result is my usb drive unable to store data properly

well here is a solution

works fine with me to deal with such kind of virus

just install , run n remove

Hi, i think i put it in a wrong way but what i meant was i deleted the autorun.inf file every time the 256 mb & 512 mb thumb drive got infected. But i did not format them at all.

have tried your suggestion (unhide the hidden files) but it didn't work. maybe the virus already partitioned off the whole thumb drive?

it can be detected in my computer but i can't open it at all.
