Cant connect to unsecure website via browsers

August 10, 2010 at 00:25:04
Specs: Windows XP
Hi There,
My web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE) are all unable to connect to unsecured internet webpages. My downstairs computer has no issue accessing these sites.

I can connect to the internet using applications like msn or warcraft but I cannot access unsecured pages via my browsers.

It is peculiar because it is possible to access secure pages on these browsers.

Anyone know what the problem is? I suspect a virus or malware.

Alex,

I know this is completely useless, but I am also experiencing the same issue. Except Firefox still works. IE and Chrome, not. And similar to you i can connect to secure pages via IE and Chrome, but not unsecure pages.

Found it...you have to chance the proxy server settings. In IE just go to Tools --> Internet Options --> Connections --> LAN Settings or select your connection and click Settings --> Automatically Detect Settings

Apparently changing this in IE will change it in Chrome automatically. Odd, I know. But it works.

i'm sure somebody out there knows a reason why this is a terrible solution, but it fixes the problem.

Usually it's because you are infected.
