Hello,
I have used AVG for Years now with no problems ever, I have recently seen about their new AVG Free 2012 so I thought I'd update to it! I uninstalled the old versions as suggested, AVG 7, 8 etc rebooted, went to http://free.avg.com/us-en/download.... amoung various other places, downloaded the small 3.69mb file, also downloaded the 142mb file and tried to run it with the installer, everytime I run the start up file, it starts, extracts the temp files, then acks like its going to start installing and then just sits there! I have tried so many things now Im about ready to just give up!! I finally went and installed Avast Free of which I had NO problem installing, its ok and I used to use Avast, but I would still like to install the New AVG Free 2012 and really know Why it wont install, I am the adminstrator, have the rights, ran scans for malware, spyware, etc rebooted after trying to install and nothing works, I have no idea why it wont install, Im using the correct 32bit for my computer, there just seems like there is something stopping the install program. I have used and installed AVG Free for years before and installed it again and again on several computers with no problems, Can anyone shed some light on this for me Im about at my wits end!
Thanks in advance!!

✔ Best Answer
I would now see if it is an AVG problem, by removing it completly ( nothing to be left ) & then trying another AV.

Just for future info, the usual reason for this sort of issue is that you failed to stop the AV from running before you did the uninstall.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Good to hear johnw nailed it.

By the way, my #2 applies to all running AV's and third party firewalls.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
