Solved Cannot get windows 7 to take updates

August 25, 2016 at 20:04:44
Specs: Windows 7
Windows will not take updates even when I use update7.The program goes through the actions but in the end when I look there not there. The Updates are the newest available, UpdatePack7R2-16.8.13.exe. Ran twice each time 6 Updates were installed. look , compare numbers not there. Try to download them from Microsoft just runs my CPU to death. When I run Microsoft update fix I get error 0x80070005
I take it that's no Trustedinstaller. Checked all of them, had 6 none of them had been used since 7-15-15. that was only 2 of them. I don't know what I caught!

You've spent so much time on this. Why not just backup your data and restore the system to Factory settings?

The error is related to ACCESS DENIED to files or registry.
Did you have a problem lately with malware/virus?
Any restore points that go back before the trouble started?

sluc had this problem a little over a month ago, at that time johnw spent near 17 hrs getting me back were I should have been. A week ago or a little more I got a splash on my screen when I opened Google that said I had something that was affecting Microsoft's network and they were going to cut me from the network if I didn't call some number to get it fixed. I heard of this stuff but this was the first time I've had anything to mess with me, except the update thing. I stay away from anything I'm not sure of, killing my machine running scans with all the stuff you guys use, every time I run the thing.

When I ran it there were 6 updates needed so it did it's thing I watched successful on all 6.When I looked to see what was installed, none of them showed So I rebooted and ran again needed 6 waited for it to do it's deal normal everything looked normal it said it had been successful (reboot OK! got going again) looked for install not there! Just another day. As far as all my scans I never turn up anything but harmless junk.Restore, worked my restores way back 1 at a time no good. Even took it back to a better time off of my back-up.

I think you still have some malware/virus/Trojan on your system.
Any email with an obscure (zip) attachment that you thought was important is enough to get infected.

MS has a Safety scanner:
https://www.microsoft.com/security/...

Perhaps try this, but it may take hours before it finishes. Start it late evening and let it run overnight.

Go to:
http://www.tweaking.com/
NOT green button near top, Look for the link just under this:
"Tweaking.com - Windows Repair v3.9.9 Released"
for the proper download. Install and run repairs as recommended, pay attention to prescans, etc. and then run in Safe Mode as recommended.
This will fix Windows issues and even Trusted Installer, Windows Update, etc.
Use Windows Update manually after this (after restart) to get all recommended updates, not some third party updater or fix it all.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Fingers got and ran Windows Repair. Never thought my machine would run again. Found 63 mistakes fixed them. No updates, opened action center, viewed update history. It said,You have not tried to install any updates for your computer. I'll keep working on it. Thanks people! Still getting the error 0x80070005 (No Trustedinstaller) using Windows Update Diagnostic Tool.

I have a good one. I'll run Update7 updates look at installed updates and the 6 the program downloaded successfully and there they were. I rebooted and the new ones were gone. Does anyone know what's going on. Remember #7 it said never tried to update! Tomorrow is another day.

You should be getting updates directly from Microsoft by running Windows Update. Why are you attempting to install the unofficial "Update7R2"?

Not only will Windows 7 not receive updates, when any updates are entered from Update7 (software reports successful) they will show in update history until reboot. then don't show up goes back to the point before updates were installed. Anyone have any ideas or knowledge of these update problems. Been working on this for days without much sleep. You guys have been great in helping me with your suggestions and hands on help and I want to thank all of you, but I can't take my stuff working as it should that's all my stuff. Obsessive compulsive I guess! johnw got me going last month (was very pleased) until whatever happened again. Just letting updates run see what comes of it, I read it can take many hours before anything happens (we will see)

When last I had problems with Windows update, Tweaking repaired the issue. If you read it carefully, they do mention that sometimes you need to rerun it after restart. Also rerun the prescan to see if there are any preliminary fixes needed.
That said, I sometimes get the Windows update saying that Updates were never installed but when I go to Programs/See Updates they are all there. Further, when I scan for available updates, it finds only newer ones so it is recognizing that updates have been installed. Because of this, I ignore the 'never installed any updates' on the Windows update page.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Fingers After 4 hours of updating I got 3 important updates and 6 optional. When I try to catch up with Simplex update7 it finds 6 needed. it installs them successfully,Good enough they are under installed updates. Shut installed updates down and start it back up they are gone. I tried that about 5 times, every time same thing (Gone). Under hidden updates (which I have hidden 100s over the years) gone file empty. I'am beat.
The 4 hour update, well the three I installed are there.

Maybe update sees me as being updated now and will not have to run so long. Will Update manually from now on.
