cannot boot xp from any mode to remove thinkp

Specs: Windows XP
I have every symptom of the thinkpoint virus but am unable to boot in ANY mode to even see what a thinkpoint screen looks like - how do I proceed now? Also, XP Professional on a Sony Vaio Laptop (no installation disc). Safe, Safe with Networking choices result in lists of drivers (with no capability to "move"). Start as normal takes me to the windows start-up screen but stalls there . . . forever if I let it. Is there a virus "killer" that can be used on start-up? I have access to a PC desktop.
