Specs: Windows xp
OS: Windows xp. PC

will not boot normal mode or safe mode w/networking

running malware bytes scan last night and as was ending, mssgs popped up "critical disc error", "low disc space", etc. tried to close those out, but then could not open ANY internet pgs. Computer froze & had to restart. Hit f8 to go to safe mode w/networking to run maleware bytes again as certainly seemed like virus, but would not allow. could only go safe mode.

Ran system restore twice and used 2 different points. Says successfully restored, but will not boot up normally. Gets to windows splash screen and scrolling status bar rolls along for a minute then stops, then restarts and automatically goes to f8 screen again.

Did run msconfig and uncheck 3 suspicious looking items in startup tab: 1)6-number sequence that was a .exe and i found in adaware quarantine also; and 2 entries that had small, odd, little boxes (10 or more).... after uncheccking those, tried again and still does same.

Have not been able to find original install cd -still looking. Any thoughts? appreciate any help. thanks

Go into the registry. Look for suspicious items in:

The same for HKCU.

able to locate reg keys for all 3 of those suspicious items that were in startup tab on msconfig. deleted those, but no change, still won't boot in normal or safe w/networking

Reset the BIOS to defaults, then try every option under F8.
