can not access drives

Specs: xp professional, pentium 4 2.8 512ra
hi,
today norton 2008 detected a trozan and removal failed. since then whenever i double click the drives in my computer it shows " resycled\ntldr.com" is not a valid win32 application" and i can not access the drives. i ran a full system scan after disabling system restore. it detected 15 threats and all were resolved. i had to restart it. but problem persisted. i can access the drives through windows explorer, but not through my computer. system has slowed down. norton showing all threats resolved!!!! please advice. many many thanks

Rename the setup file, mbam-setup.exe, before you download it. To do that once the "enter name of file to save to" box appears as the download begins in the filename box rename mbam-setup.exe to tool.exe> click save.

1. Double Click tool.exe to install the application.
2. Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
3. If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
4. Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan. The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
5. When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
6. Make sure that everything found is checked, and click Remove Selected.
7. When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediately.
8. The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
9. Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Rename the setup file, HJTInstall.exe, before you download it. To do that once the "enter name of file to save to" box appears as the download begins in the filename box rename HJTInstall.exe to tools.exe> click save.
1. Save " tools.exe" to your desktop.
2. Double click on tools.exe to run the program.
3. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
4. Accept the license agreement by clicking the "I Accept" button.
5.Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
6. Click "Save log" to save the log file and then the log will open in Notepad.
7. Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
8. Paste the log in your next reply.
9. Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet! Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I had a similar problem - I believe its a left-over from a succesful trojan clean: corrupt autorun files on each disk. I got rid of them by downloading autorun eater ( freeware) which cleared the problem as soon I ran it. PS deleting the autorun files did not help...

sorry for jumping in on someone elses thread, but im having exactly the same problem. iv followed all your instructions, and was hoping that if i posted both logs you could possibly check them for me? il post them anyway and if you can please help me. thanks!

I had the same thing. I think it was called Trojan-Gen. Anyway, I downloaded all three of the free programs listed below and ran them and that did it. The way I had to get to the internet, because the usual icon didn't work, was I went to Start, All Programs, Windows Update. This didn't take me to Windows Update because this thing doesn't let you get to Microsoft's site, but it took me to Google. That's the only way I could get to the internet.

hi,
i am extremely sorry that i did not reply in time. i did not have net connection for last 7 days. thanks for yor kind concern.

i followed your instructions step by step. antimalware founs 5 new trozans that norton could not find. after removing them computer became fast but still i could not access drives . i used to get same message every time. i noticed a hidden autorun.inf file in each drive. i opened it in notepad and saw that line 'resycled\ntldr.com' among other lines. that autorun.inf file was the culprit. but i forgot to save the text file for submission later on. but it could not be deleted. in properties tab 'hidden' option was greyed out. so in command prompt i had to type "attrib -s -h autorun.inf". then it became visible and deleted it. i repeated that same procedure in each drive and reboot it. success!!!! i hope that this method will others. first we have to remove the virus then to correct it's leftovers. thank you all.
