Browsers won't work--malware?

Specs: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, 2.001 GHz / 3581 MB
I had some malware on my system. I ran Spybot Search & Destroy, which removed it, and subsequent scans came up clean. At that point I noticed I cannot use Google Chrome or Internet Explorer--when I try to open them, I always get "Cannot display the webpage" errors. However, Firefox works fine.

I ran Malwarebytes, which discovered a root kit and removed it. Restarted my computer, still can't use browsers.

I normally use Firefox so I don't know how long I've had the browser problem. I'm just guessing that it was related to the malware. I've tried reinstalling the browsers but still have the same problem. I would really appreciate some help!

malwarebytes will edited only remove minor rootkits. You need other tools to remove tdss, etc.
You might want to run Hitman Pro and remove what it finds.

Have you tried resetting internet explorer? Sometimes bad add-ons cause the problems.

I want to have your baby! XD Thank you so much! Hitman Pro didn't find anything except that IE was trying to connect through a proxy. It repaired it and now everything works. I don't know why that would have been affecting Chrome, but... it works now. You are awesome.
