Browsers Not Working

Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, 1.599 GHz / 503 MB
FF working fine. Chrome and Safari will not work. Everything worked fine yesterday. I ran malaware and super antispyware and removed everything found. Then, uninstalled both chrome and safari and reinstalled them .. sill no luck.

This is the error message I receive when I try to open any page in any browser other than FF

Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): Unknown error.

Any help much appreciated !!

Make sure in Chrome/Safari that the proxy server box is unticked/unchecked, then try browsing with both again. That should hopefully solve your problem.

I could not find that box in chrome, but in my search for it I did come across a "reset" box that said if I was having problems with the connection to use that. So, I did and that fixed chrome.

And for some reason, when I brought Safari up to search for the box there, it is actually working today.

So apparently the problem is fixed. THANK YOU !
