Specs: Windows 7, Intel Pentium P6200/4 gb ddr3 memory
I have researched solutions to this, and everyone says the same thing: to remove the previous version of AVG. We don't HAVE any previous versions of AVG on our laptop. We had Avast, and we removed it. So now what??

EDIT:
I'm assuming you are trying to install AVG instead of Avast. If you are NOT trying to install AVG and this error is popping up out of the blue then see the following post (#2 from Johnw) instead.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The usual cause for AV uninstall issues is not first shutting down real-time monitoring.

I wonder if it is Avast remnants that are actually causing the problem - mis-reported.
Try the Avast removal tool here (it removes all traces):

I'm curious as to why you are making this change. Mostly Avast is given better vibes than AVG.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it onto your Desktop. If your default download location is not the Desktop, drag it out of it's location onto the Desktop.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please Copy and Paste the contents into your reply.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt).
The logs are large, upload them using this, or upload to a site of your choosing. No account needed. Give us the links please.

If you are still having problems with installing AVG this is how I fixed a desktop which wouldn't install it (0XC0070643). Then download AVG BFE Fix tool. You should then restart the computer and it should be fixed, try to install AVG again and this should hopefully work for you.
