Does it come up with an error? or does it just fail to run?

have you tried running it in safe mode?
this should be able to be accomplished by hitting F11

have you tried renaming it something else?
for example rename the avg.exe to notathing.exe

It wont open at all.I have had a error 481.How do I run in safe mode please?

Click Start and then click Shut Down.
In the drop-down list of the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK.
As your computer restarts but before Windows launches, press F8.
On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press F8 when the boot menu appears.
Use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate safe mode option, and then press ENTER.

Just boot up your system and tap f8 continuosly and then the menu should appear
