AVG anti-virus error message

Specs: Windows XP Pro SP3, Intel Celeron 1.30GHz
For a couple days, usually when I first get to my desktop, or shortly after, a box comes up labled "AVG Anti Virus Installer". The message is, "AVG Anti Virus Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close We are sorry for the inconvenience."

"If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost."

"For more information about the error, click here."

There are two buttons, one is "Debug", the other is "Close". Also there is a choice to click for more information. When I click that, I get, "AVG Anti Virus Installer, Error Signature". The error signature is, "szAppName: InstallCrt.exe szAppVer: 12.7.250"

The second line is: "szAppName: InstallCrt.exe szAppVer: 12.7.250 offset: 0001c308".

What does all this mean? Is there something wrong with the anti-virus program? I have clicked the "debug" button, but haven't clicked "close".

Why does the main message say it needs to close?

I would also recommend uninstall and reinstall but I would run Malwarebytes before uninstalling to be sure nothing is lurking on the side lines when you uninstall. Another option would be to uninstall and install a different AV.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
