Avast will not scan my e-mail

Specs: Windows 7
I am using Windows 7 and Windows live mail. I installed AVAST free version today and I get a message saying my mail is not being scanned and that I should disable SSL/TLS in my mail client. I cannot find where to do this. My laptop is an HP G72-B60US Notebook

Thank you John. I just realized that I already have Microsoft Security Essentials and it is set to scan automatically. Now I am wondering if I should take AVAST off my computer. This might be the reason my computer is slow to start up. These two programs are possibly running at the same time.

Definitely remove it Lakelady Artist, that is your problem, you can only have one real time AV program installed.

Thanks again. I am so embarrased that I didn't even realize that I had Microsoft Security Essentials already installed. I guess they included it when I purchased this computer last Oct.
