Avast AV chronically warns of malware attack

October 26, 2010 at 16:29:36
Specs: Windows XP, p4 2.66/1gig
I keep getting a popup message from my Avast anti virus that it has succesfully blocked a "malicious url". It occurs while I am on a "safe" page such as yahoo! Occurs every few minutes. Then, after about 10 of these I get a MS Explorer message that there is a problem and needs to close. I have to shut down my whole browser. This also disconnects my modem. When I try to reconnect it says I don't have a modem. I have to shut down the whole computer and reboot, then I can reconnect and the whole process starts over. I have done an Avast scan and found nothing. Is there some other anti virus I should run?

schedule a bootscan with avast and move all it finds to the chest

You may also want to run malwarebytes and clean out all it finds

OK, thanks, I didn't even know about "boot scan" but I see it there and will run it now and tell you the results.

It found three bad looking things and I sent them to the chest. But, how do I delete from the chest?

Also, it found one corrupt file in "file D:" Is that something I should fix?

"how do I delete from the chest?"

You don't have to, they are in quarantine already. If you want to, just right click on them and delete.

It came back but I have finally found the solution. TDSSKiller from Kaspersky. Go here for a discussion of what it is.
